First GOTV-Canvass Day a Success for the SECRC

What better way to encourage participation in this year’s election season than members talking to members? That’s what happened in and around Atlanta, GA, at the Southeastern Carpenters’ Member-to-Member Atlanta Canvass Day and GOTV Rally!

UBC General Vice President Tom Flynn and UBC Southern District Vice President Jason Engels led the event. Over 100 members heard from these leaders, as well as SECRC Executive Vice-President Tom Jenkins and Political Director Brett Hulme, about the importance of this election for the union movement in general and the carpenters union, specifically. The event also welcomed U.S. Senator from Georgia, Jon Ossoff, and U.S. Congresswoman from Georgia’s 5th District and union member, Nikema Williams, who each gave insightful comments.

Following the presentation, SECRC brothers and sisters joined with these leaders to visit with fellow UBC members around metro Atlanta. In all, 126 members and SECRC staff participated and knocked on 354 doors of fellow members. 108 conversations were held (a 30% success rate).

“This was a great first GOTV canvassing event for our Council,” said EST Jenkins. “We were honored to have Vice Presidents Flynn and Engels join us, as well as our elected officials Ossoff and WIlliams. Our members said they enjoyed speaking with them and were proud to have these leaders stand with them as they canvassed Atlanta.”

The SECRC is partnering with the Empower Project for the 2024 elections for our Brothers and Sisters in Georgia (and North Carolina). Under this plan, a member talks with friends and family to ensure they’re ready to vote! In return, they earn money for their efforts! During the canvassing, 13 members signed up for the Empower Project. Learn more about the SECRC Empower Project.
