Just before the recent Labor Day holiday, the Southeastern Carpenters’ (SECRC) Augusta Local 283 & Southern States Millwrights (SSMRC) hosted Georgia U.S. Senator Rev. Raphael Warnock at its Education Center in Augusta. The Senator toured the facility, which allowed him to view the benefits and potential of long-term, lucrative careers for Georgia residents in any of the many crafts under one trade. SECRC Executive Secretary-Treasurer Tom Jenkins led the tour for the carpenters portion and SSMRC EST Wayne Jennings led the Millwrights portion.
Augusta Carpenters Local 283 also hosted a Labor Roundtable session for Senator Warnock, so that he would conduct a question-answer session with local union leaders. More than 30 labor leaders from the Augusta & Central Savannah River Area attended, representing: Carpenters, Millwrights, Laborers, Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, Transportation (SMART) – Railroad Division, Bricklayers, Transport Workers Union (Ft Gordon), Iron Workers, Painters, Office & Professional Employees Union, Machinists, Communications Workers of America, Service Employees International Union, and the American Federation of Government Employees (Ft. Gordon).
